I wrote a poem
Feb. 25th, 2023 03:26 pmSWG's monthly challenge Cheesy Corn Chips had art image prompts, and La Belle Dame sans Merci made me of course think of Silvergifting.
The title is from John Keats' poem by the same name - the poem that also inspired the original art.
( The latest dream I ever dreamt )

My fandom week
Feb. 19th, 2023 05:46 pmOn Tuesday, this year's My Slashy Valentine collection opened. I got two different (but connected) fics as a gift from AdmirableMonster, and they were just what I had wanted! Especially the main gift, With Eyes Unclouded became an instant favourite. It's a canon divergence AU Silvergifting with fealty kink where Mairon owes Celebrimbor a life debt, and it happens during Celebrimbor's time in Nargothrond. The second fic was a Finrod/Curufin/Celegorm spin-off from the same canon divergence AU.
The fic I wrote for the gift exchange was also silvergifting, more angsty version where Celebrimbor goes to meet Annatar one more time when he knows that he's actually Sauron: Thy Fearful Symmetry. It's a story about doomed love, and they both know it.
I have written Lightbearer a little, but there's something in the current chapter that fights me big time.
So I began to write something else as a distraction, and finished it as well. SWG's monthly challenge is called Cheesy Corn Chips, and it has a collection of corny and cheesy pop culture prompts. Certainly my kind of challenge! So I couldn't resist a certain song prompt and wrote a fluffy-angsty Mairon/Melkor fic Eternal Flame.
I have spotted another prompt as well that gives me big silvergifting vibes, so I may even write another thing for that challenge if I have time.
Ah, and I have got an idea to do a 30-day character challenge using old SWG challenge prompt list. More of that later (I have a poll on my tumblr asking if I should make this about Mairon or Celebrimbor, as I couldn't choose between them).

This is part of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge #13: In your own space, rec three fanworks that you did not create.
I decided to rec fics that could be great introductions to the Silmarillion fandom for people who are somewhat familiar with the Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit (books or movies), or Rings of Power series, and who are interested in Tolkien's larger legendarium, but don't know the Silmarillion very well yet.
Jailbird by JazTheBard is written so that you can read it without having read the Silmarillion, the chapter notes help the reader there, but it introduces an important character from the Silmarillion, Maglor, in a LotR world (it's a canon divergence AU).
The iconic Silmarillion pairing is Maedhros/Fingon, and this rec post would be incomplete without a Russingon (the name of their ship, based on Maedhros' nickname Russandol +Fingon) fic. I chose The Starless Road, a very popular and extremely well written fic that happens after canon events. A nifty thing about Elves is that they can be re-embodied again in Valinor, and many Silm fics give them second chances in their second life. This fic has also Hobbits to bring familiarity for LotR readers. The fic is orphaned because the author became a published author, but that just tells about the quality of writing.
This rec list would also be incomplete without my OTP, Celebrimbor/Annatar. Actually, this pairing is a very good entry point for a Lord of the Rings fan to Tolkien's larger legendarium as both Celebrimbor and Annatar (who is Sauron) are mentioned in LotR. You only need to remember that Sauron had a "fair form" once. I chose one of my favourite fics here because it has brilliant characterization, worldbuilding, and can also be read as deep friendship fic. It happens in Khazad-dûm, or Moria as it's known in LotR, so it also has many LotR elements - and Dwarf culture! I'm talking about The Light Under the Mountains by Prackspoor.
All of my recs are rated T.

Fannish Goals 2023
Jan. 23rd, 2023 07:36 pmThe title feels a bit intimidating, doesn't it... well, this is just part of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge #12: In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.
Here are some of my fannish goals for this year:
1. To update regularly my longfic Lightbearer. I have been neglecting it because of the many exchanges and challenges I've been participating, but I want to be in a better place with this fic in the end of the year. Perhaps it's not finished as there's still a lot that's going to happen in it, but closer to the end, nevertheless.
2. I want to start a new, chaptered silvergifting fic that happens in Ost-in-Edhil. I know that this is perhaps not a wise thing to do because 1.) I need to write that other silvergifting longfic of mine (see above) and 2.) Others have already written their iconic story much better in this fandom. But I still would like to try writing their story my way. I hope I can start writing it this year.
3. Remember that writing a short work like a drabble can be a solution when I don't have much time to write but I still want to write something.

Snowflake Challenge #9
Jan. 17th, 2023 08:36 pmThis was the newest fandom snowflake challenge: In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, time you spent in the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well.
I had a fulfilling year in the fandom even though I sometimes struggled with my fics. I dared to post more of my fan art, which is a personal win. But the thing I really want to celebrate from the past year is that I organized a small tumblr event for the Silmarillion fandom: the Silvergifting Week, in August 2022.
I had never organized a fandom event before. I had not even thought of organizing a fandom event. But the idea came to me suddenly as I noticed that there was going to be Angbang (Melkor/Mairon) week on tumblr earlier last year. I find myself wishing that someone would organize a similar week for my OTP Silvergifting (which is Mairon|Annatar|Sauron/Celebrimbor). Then I looked at the mirror. Perhaps that someone could be me?
I needed some encouragement to do this; I got it from my online fandom friends who were very helpful and believed in me. I was a bit worried because (some say) silvergifting is a controversial pairing and I had no modding experience – I didn't want participants to get negative comments. But I think it went very well! It was a small event, and thus manageable; the posts and comments were (as far as I know) positive.
I'm not sure yet, but I think I might organize it again this year. Perhaps with new prompts. If I do, you'll hear it in the event blog first.

Let's talk about silvergifting
Jan. 3rd, 2023 08:44 pmSnowflake challenge #2 was to write a promo, manifesto or primer for your fave character, ship or fandom. I chose to write something about my fave ship in the Silmarillion fandom, silvergifting. That is: Celebrimbor/Annatar | Sauron | Mairon (he has many names).
