My fandom week
Feb. 19th, 2023 05:46 pmOn Tuesday, this year's My Slashy Valentine collection opened. I got two different (but connected) fics as a gift from AdmirableMonster, and they were just what I had wanted! Especially the main gift, With Eyes Unclouded became an instant favourite. It's a canon divergence AU Silvergifting with fealty kink where Mairon owes Celebrimbor a life debt, and it happens during Celebrimbor's time in Nargothrond. The second fic was a Finrod/Curufin/Celegorm spin-off from the same canon divergence AU.
The fic I wrote for the gift exchange was also silvergifting, more angsty version where Celebrimbor goes to meet Annatar one more time when he knows that he's actually Sauron: Thy Fearful Symmetry. It's a story about doomed love, and they both know it.
I have written Lightbearer a little, but there's something in the current chapter that fights me big time.
So I began to write something else as a distraction, and finished it as well. SWG's monthly challenge is called Cheesy Corn Chips, and it has a collection of corny and cheesy pop culture prompts. Certainly my kind of challenge! So I couldn't resist a certain song prompt and wrote a fluffy-angsty Mairon/Melkor fic Eternal Flame.
I have spotted another prompt as well that gives me big silvergifting vibes, so I may even write another thing for that challenge if I have time.
Ah, and I have got an idea to do a 30-day character challenge using old SWG challenge prompt list. More of that later (I have a poll on my tumblr asking if I should make this about Mairon or Celebrimbor, as I couldn't choose between them).

Feb. 12th, 2023 11:08 amI didn't do many fandom activities this week because of irl matters that have taken a lot of my time. I still need to get used to this new-normal situation where I can't write or draw as much as I wanted - and try to learn to use my time more efficiently, perhaps. But for now, this means diminished activities.
Anyway, I have slowly continued to write the next chapter of Lightbearer. I should be able to post it in two weeks.
On Ao3, I have been reading a wonderful silvergifting fic The Harrowing by Chthonion (link works only for logged in users). I love that story! It's fascinating that this fic and my own fic Lightbearer are both post-canon redemption silvergifting fics, and I love to see how the other author has solved some things in their story. We have a different setting, of course, and they have Frodo as a prominent character while I have decided to leave him out of the story. Perhaps a bad decision, for one of the things I really love in the Harrowing is the interaction between Frodo and Annatar (as he wants to be called in that story).
Next week, on February 14, there's the opening of My Slashy Valentine fic exchange collection. Can't wait!

My fandom activities this week
Feb. 5th, 2023 01:39 pmI'm quite busy irl nowadays, so not much fandom activities for me this week.
I finished writing my Celebrimbor/Sauron dark AU ficlet for SWG Monthly challenge, though! Silmarillion Writers' Guild has monthly prompt challenges that often inspire me to write something, and this month we could use old prompts. I posted my fic both on SWG and on Ao3.
I joined
ushobwri because their February is focused on making progress on WIPs and that's what I really need right now. Let's see how it goes!
I also participated in the weekly re-reading of LotR with AoA friends (we read "Houses of Healing"), and spent a lot of time on discord, as usual.

My fandom activities this week
Jan. 29th, 2023 03:56 pmThe biggest thing I did this week, fandomwise, was that I finished writing and editing my fic for My Slashy Valentine gift exchange and posted it on Ao3. Yay! The collection will open on February 14.
Otherwise, I've been on discord and tumblr as usual, and updated this blog more than ever. Fandom Snowflake Challenge has been helpful in this.
Today I've been writing a short Celebrimbor/Sauron AU piece for SWG Monthly Challege. I hope to finish it in a week, but there's no hurry, DL is February 15.

What I did in fandom this week
Jan. 22nd, 2023 07:09 pmAll right, this has now become a recurring topic in my blog! I'm working on weekdays so I have most time for my fandom activities on the weekend. And when I say fandom, I mean the Tolkien fandom (and especially the Silmarillion fandom) unless otherwise mentioned.
This week I've been writing a fic for my recipient at My Slashy Valentine exchange. I have really enjoyed writing it, and the first draft is now ready. The deadline is February 7 (I'm a veteran participant), and the Ao3 collection will open on the 14th, so I have still a plenty of time to edit it. I can't talk about the topic or pairing yet because it's a secret exchange, but I can't wait to get it posted and the collection opened.
I have also been writing a little something for
silwritersguild's Jubilee challenge where the current challenge lets us use prompts from earlier challenges. I'm doing one of the Notion Club Revival prompts. It's a silvergifting AU story based on my Celebrimbor in Mordor AU that I haven't forgotten although I have seriously neglected it.
As always, I have been hanging on SWG and Alliance of Arda discord servers and taken care that my silm art reblog queue on tumblr never ends.
On Alliance of Arda discord, there's a weekly re-reading of the Lord of the Rings on Zoom, and I went there and listened people reading this week's chapter, the Pyre of Denethor, (I came in too late to get a part myself) and joined the discussion.
And today I have been drawing Mairon, which was also my entry #10 for the Snowflake Challenge. I made a separate post about it.
