MSV fic finished!
Feb. 7th, 2025 07:27 pmI finished writing and editing my fic for My Slashy Valentine exchange. I had a good time writing it as I happen to like the pairing a lot, and can't wait for it to be published on Valentine's day. I asked for an extension I thought I might need because of busy time IRL. I wouldn't have needed it, in the end, but now Ao3 has an issue, and their downtime is extended, or the site won't load for me, so I'm glad that I have that extension in case I'm not able to post it this evening because of that issue.
I wish I could tell you more about the fic, but I can't until the recipient has got it. Let me just say that it's the longest one I've written since TRSB.

What I did in fandom this week
Jan. 22nd, 2023 07:09 pmAll right, this has now become a recurring topic in my blog! I'm working on weekdays so I have most time for my fandom activities on the weekend. And when I say fandom, I mean the Tolkien fandom (and especially the Silmarillion fandom) unless otherwise mentioned.
This week I've been writing a fic for my recipient at My Slashy Valentine exchange. I have really enjoyed writing it, and the first draft is now ready. The deadline is February 7 (I'm a veteran participant), and the Ao3 collection will open on the 14th, so I have still a plenty of time to edit it. I can't talk about the topic or pairing yet because it's a secret exchange, but I can't wait to get it posted and the collection opened.
I have also been writing a little something for
silwritersguild's Jubilee challenge where the current challenge lets us use prompts from earlier challenges. I'm doing one of the Notion Club Revival prompts. It's a silvergifting AU story based on my Celebrimbor in Mordor AU that I haven't forgotten although I have seriously neglected it.
As always, I have been hanging on SWG and Alliance of Arda discord servers and taken care that my silm art reblog queue on tumblr never ends.
On Alliance of Arda discord, there's a weekly re-reading of the Lord of the Rings on Zoom, and I went there and listened people reading this week's chapter, the Pyre of Denethor, (I came in too late to get a part myself) and joined the discussion.
And today I have been drawing Mairon, which was also my entry #10 for the Snowflake Challenge. I made a separate post about it.

Snowflake Challenge #9
Jan. 17th, 2023 08:36 pmThis was the newest fandom snowflake challenge: In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, time you spent in the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well.
I had a fulfilling year in the fandom even though I sometimes struggled with my fics. I dared to post more of my fan art, which is a personal win. But the thing I really want to celebrate from the past year is that I organized a small tumblr event for the Silmarillion fandom: the Silvergifting Week, in August 2022.
I had never organized a fandom event before. I had not even thought of organizing a fandom event. But the idea came to me suddenly as I noticed that there was going to be Angbang (Melkor/Mairon) week on tumblr earlier last year. I find myself wishing that someone would organize a similar week for my OTP Silvergifting (which is Mairon|Annatar|Sauron/Celebrimbor). Then I looked at the mirror. Perhaps that someone could be me?
I needed some encouragement to do this; I got it from my online fandom friends who were very helpful and believed in me. I was a bit worried because (some say) silvergifting is a controversial pairing and I had no modding experience – I didn't want participants to get negative comments. But I think it went very well! It was a small event, and thus manageable; the posts and comments were (as far as I know) positive.
I'm not sure yet, but I think I might organize it again this year. Perhaps with new prompts. If I do, you'll hear it in the event blog first.

What I did today in fandom
Jan. 15th, 2023 06:50 pmI got an idea that I could write here about my various activities in the Silmarillion fandom. These are just little things how I interact with fandom daily. I hope this will become a recurring topic in my blog.
Today I took part in the paint-in event on the SWG discord server. It was a low pressure event where everyone who wanted gathered to paint or draw (or to do any kind of art, really) together. We had a text chat on a channel where we told others what we're doing, and took pics of what we were working with. It was really fun! And I made some art.

Silm fandom communities/Resources
Jan. 9th, 2023 08:17 pmThis is my entry for Snowflake Challenge #5: In your own space, tell us about 3 creative/fannish resources, spaces, or communities you use or enjoy.
These all are for the Silmarillion/Tolkien fandom:
1. The Silmarillion Writers' Guild is both a fic archive and a community for the fans of the Silmarillion. The archive hosts fan fic, fan art, and other kind of fannish media. The main focus is fannish content based on the Silmarillion and Tolkien's legendarium, but there's also section for non-Silmarillion fanworks. They have a very active and friendly discord server for Silmarillion fans. If you have an account you can find the invite link on the website, or you can ask a mod about the link.
2. Tolkien Gateway is where I can quickly check my canon. Tolkien's universe is so huge that a wiki of this kind is valuable.
3. I have several sources where to go when I want to have more information about Elvish languages. Currently, I use mostly Parf Edhellen (Easy to use, accurate as a dictionary) or Eldamo (More complex for beginners, a great source for grammar, great dictionary).

Let's talk about silvergifting
Jan. 3rd, 2023 08:44 pmSnowflake challenge #2 was to write a promo, manifesto or primer for your fave character, ship or fandom. I chose to write something about my fave ship in the Silmarillion fandom, silvergifting. That is: Celebrimbor/Annatar | Sauron | Mairon (he has many names).
